will england :: SKS sight adjustment

Well, I've been out a couple of times to the range to check real accuracy with my SKS. I've been able to get decent groups at 50 yards with Wolf 123gr ammo (84k .gif image) but, I've had to aim about a foot low!

I finally got tired of this, and decided to remedy this problem. I posted to rec.guns and the collective advice is something like this:

Either move out to 100 yards or in to 25 yards. 50 yards is iffy for getting proper sight in.
Set the rear leaf sights to either
- Battle position for 25 yards, or
- "1" for 100 yards.
Order or purchase a front sight adjustment tool. Brownells, Tapco, CTD and Midway all carry this. It'll run about $10.00.
Move the front sight the opposite way you want the impact point to go.
- To lower the point of impact, you need to raise the front sight.
- To raise the point of impact, you need to lower the front sight.
That's about it!

I'll actually try this out this weekend and take a few pictures of how to do this. I'll report back how well it works.
