Battery Chargers Summary I just got my latest copy of Motorcycle Consumer News, the only magazine to get if you are interested in detailed unbiased reviews of all things motorcycle. (I am not a stockholder either) They reviewed motorcycle battery chargers and thought since it is winter for most of us sharing the info, and a plug for some of you to subscribe, is in order. Best Buy, for the second time was the Superior Accu-charger 2 amp 21-1450 at $22.59 www.superior-cycle.com it received an almost perfect score and costs about half what the normal charger goes for. Four chargers received perfect scores. Both of the Yuasa chargers (widely available) in the 1.5 amp model $59.99 and the 0.9 amp model $41.95 . The Accumate 1.2 amp also got a perfect score at $49.95 www.westcoastbattery.com >. The Battery tender 6A also got a perfect score but at $89.99 it is a bit steep, but could charge a car at 6 amps. I think it may have too many amps as I dont like to charge higher than 1.5 amps for a bike battery (general industry concensus also) The regular Battery Tender Plus scored below all of these other models listed (the one I own, ack!). The one thing they did not review is those cheap chargers listed in JC Whitney, I would have liked to have seen them reviewed. Considering they don't have a brand name on them I doub't they would have fared well. If you want to subscribe to this magazine you can go to the website at www.mcnews.com , you can sample some of the articles from past issues, however the best articles are not posted, reviews of most every oil made, tires, bikes, and gear, that is where this magazine is my favorite. Well I'm off the soap box, next Brad 1982 seca 650 turbo ==== also ==== One note about the page: the "battery chargers summary" of MCN's test of chargers makes mention that the Battery Tender Plus got a very low rating. I don't know if you want to add a note about this, but after griping and whining from Battery Tender officials, MCN did a retest and changed the status to a "recommended" rating. MCN acknowledged there might have been imperfect connections on the initial test and stated the Tender Plus, on retest, "earns a 'Recommended' rating again, and we regret any damage we may have done to Deltran's fine reputation." The follow-up appeared several months after the original article. I realize you are just posting info culled from other sources and you didn't pen the item yourself, but I wanted to bring it to your attention.
