Tool Kit Essentials Assuming that I would not be adjusting valves or changing the oil on a trip >. . . what would be the minimum suggested items to keep in an "on the road" tool kit. In the past I've subscribed to the "everything including the kitchen sink" philosophy but I'm trying to pare it down to the essentials. For instance: Phillips screwdriver, short & long (what sizes?) Slotted screwdriver, mini, short & medium Allen wrench set (metric sizes) Wrenches (what are the key sizes? I think I'm taking too many) 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 13mm (one of the muffler bolts is 13mm, I think) 14mm, 17mm, 27mm socket (for the rear axle). One good adjustable wrench makes sense, too. Bring the Kawasaki spark plug wrench along. I haven't found a better one that fits, yet. Leatherman tool Cable ties Pliers short role of electrical wire duct tape electrical tape? Spare bulbs (head, tail and turn) shoulder bolt for emergency foot peg Allen head socket for front axle Breaker bar for Allen head socket (taped to inside of bag above the small "shelf" Stem bearing adjusting tool Tubeless tire plug gun, plugs and accessories Small towel Service Manual Electric air pump (stored in small area adjacent to the battery, requires cutting out part of the tray to create a "holster" for the pump) Emergency contact information A couple pieces of fuel hose, 1 foot long and 4 or 5 feet long. Spare fuel filter. JB quick. Replacement front wheel bearings. Snap ring pliers for the *#$&$*# front wheel bearings. Rubber mallet to knock out the #()&$(#@& front wheel bearings. Last 3 only important on a post '93 model Connie. :) Comments? Suggestions? Bill Buchanan Cog 2803 (additions by Dale Horstman)
