Riding Schools - CLASS, STAR, etc Taking just about any one of the riding schools will improve your riding 10 to 20% in one day. At least. It's an unbelievable gain, and it doesn't matter much what you are riding. Be forewarned, riding on the track is hellishly addictive (as bad as or worse than LD Riding). If you don't learn something from one of these classes, you aren't trying. Reg Pridmore's CLASS is set up for more street oriented topics and for first timers. It's about as easy an introduction to the track as you will get. It's very laid back, no pressure, and very organized. The last one I was at had people on RT's, GTS's, other BMW's all the way to GXSR1000's. Jason Pridmore's STAR motorcycle school takes up where Reg leaves off. It's a faster group, more track oriented, but all of it applies to your everyday riding. The fast group at Reg's is the slow group at STAR. Personally, my favorite. The first time I was at one of these, a guy who had less than 5000 miles riding under his belt was here on his R100RS. He was easily a 100% better rider by the end of the day. I've taken both of the above, and you get a TON of track time, more than you could ever imagine. You will be utterly exhausted at the end of the day. I firmly suggest trailering to class if you can just on the exhaustion factor alone. Most of these classes cost around 300 bucks a day (exact prices are on the web sites) with some tracks being more expensive than others. Some of them (Schwantz, STAR, Code) also allow you to rent bikes from them for another couple hundred bucks or so. You'll need a full coverage suit (either full leathers or a riding suit, like an areostich), boots, gloves, etc. But you should have all that stuff anyone for riding. Keith Code's Superbike School is very structured. You do the exercises in his way and you progress through the stages. I haven't taken one of these, but people who go have raved about it. Far and away, it's not the bike, it's the rider. There is about zero intimidation going on at any one of these classes. The instructors are very approachable, and always willing to help. From super obvious big mistakes, to small subtle things that will greatly improve your riding.. The first time out on the track is pretty strange, but they go slow and introduce you to the track. By the end of the day you won't believe you waited so long to take one of these classes.. I strongly urge you sign up for one. I've been to STAR a couple times now, and every time I go I learn something new and I would go again in a heartbeat. You never stop learning. Links.
