Cassoday, KS Monthly Breakfast Ride Info Several have inquired about the Cassoday, KS monthly ride. Thought I'd give some information. As most of you know, the common view of Kansas is that it is flat as a pancake with few curves and hotter than the hinges of hell in summer. Generally speaking, we are guilty as charged. However, in the eastern parts of the state, it is mildly hilly and generally greener than the desert plains of the western part. The Kansas Turnpike passes through the Flint Hills from about El Dorado to Emporia. It is some of the prettiest cattle pasture land on the planet, especially in the Spring when the new grass is growing. Nestled at the foot of the Flint Hills is the one dog town of Cassoday. A number of years ago, guys would ride over to eat breakfast at the little cafe on the first Sunday of each month. (Similar to how the Sturgis event started.) The event has grown to something of a tradition in these parts, with an average of 1,000 bikes showing up during the summer months and a few of the die hards making the trip year round. It's a virtual promenade of the motorcycle industry. Every motorcycle you can think of makes the trip: Harleys, Jap twins, Beemers, Gold Things, sport bikes, Cushman scooters and an assortment of Sport Touring rigs. I've even seen some vintage rides there mixed in with a couple of new Hyabusa's. Most of the fair weather bikers in this area have their scoots put up for the season. Those of you who want to make the run on November 4th are welcome. We're trying to arrange a fall gathering of COGgers for a "last hurrah" of the year. Maybe burn some hot dogs, kick some tires and take some pictures. There is a delightful road north out of town to Strong City that is a favorite. Short of getting down to the SE part of the state where the roads start getting curvy, it's the best we can do. Anyone interested can contact me off list if you want. This would be my first "organized" event as AAD. What the heck? Have to start somewhere. Mike Smith ZG1000-A15 (Homer) - COG #4533 NC-AAD Kansas http://home.kscable.com/mesmith/Index.htm
