About the BakerBilt fairing extender It cuts down on the buffeting by making your windshield taller. A taller windshield would do the same, except a taller windshield isn't adjustable - when mine is fully extended, I look through it...I wouldn't want a regular windshield that tall. If I flip it down, I look over it. If I open it a little, it blows air into my chest to help to keep me cool. They don't list 'em on their website...You have to give 'em a call and they'll send a brochure - or see mine at www.viertell.com/bikes/smurfie/index1.htm Why doesn't someone make themselves some money and invent a truly adjustable windshield for the Connie? I'd buy one! Steve Viertell, Chico, CA '01 Concours, "Smurfie" COG 4274 IBA 6049 WA6ZGK www.viertell.com/bikes/ ===== also ===== A few people had asked about the Bakerbilt windshield extender (no, it's not on their website, you have to ring them and ask for the literature) and I said I'd write something up after I got it and test rode it. For those who don't know it's like an air wing but it mounts to the top of your windshield and pivots into three different positions. Low, high and 45 degrees. I've been looking for something like this because at 6'8" my head gets buffeted all over the place whenever I ride. Even with earplugs it's annoying. To begin with it came late from the company. It was on back order but the nitwit on the phone didn't tell me till I rang back 5 days later to ask where it was. When it did arrive it turns out to be the 12 inch although I had ordered the 15. That aside, the people were very nice to deal with on both occasions and I'm sure if I call tomorrow to complain they'll ship the 15 no problem. It may not be necessary however as I've found an acrylic place down the street and they'll cut me one for less than shipping the other back and the lost time & aggravation etc. Anyway, the unit is brilliant. I thought the look was going to bother me but it's not nearly as bad as I thought. I even overheard one goober saying he thought it must be some sort of HUD unit like in an F-15 (don't I wish. VBG ). Fitting it took all of 20 minutes and I'm the village idiot when it comes to things mechanical. Best of all, if the look was so bad I couldn't use it round town, 4 allan screws and it's off until I go on a long ride somewhere. Once I fitted it I took it out on the local freeway and blipped it up to 125mph, no flex, super quiet and extremely limited buffeting. I am certain that the 15 inch wide version will eliminate this completely. If you roll it back into the 45 degree position it pulls air in on to your chest area and cools you down, and you can do this while riding even though for legal reasons the company advises you not to. The cost is only 50 something bucks and I have 3 windshields in one. Down low is like the OEM, up high is like a tall screen and at 45, it's like someone cut a vent in my existing screen. The alternative would be to buy a 19 inch Rifle, which, if I decided it was too hot to ride with round town, would necessitate a fairly major operation to change it out and the cost would be about 6 times as much. All in all I'd say a very big thumbs up for the extender. Regards Big Nick
