To begin, you must open the action and drop the magazine. Check very carefully for any stray round that may be lurking in there. Check again. Look around, make sure that there isn't any ammunition in the same room as the weapon.

OK, now you'll need the following tools:

-- Cleaning kit from the buttstock
-- Cleaning rod from the rifle
-- Safety glasses
-- Cleaning patches, rags, etc.
-- Rubber gloves if you are sensitive to the cleaning fluids you'll be using.
-- Cleaning fluid. I personally prefer Break Free CLP, but it's up to you.

SKS Action opened and magazine down, showing all rounds have been cleared.
