Checking out a Used Concours 1)Clutch star spring (*easy to fix*) you will notice a pulsing in the clutch lever when shifting if she has problems with this....Some of the earlier bikes (and some newer I think) had a problem wherre the nut and spring was made of soft chocolate and tended to have some of the "Fingers" break off. the new parts will cost at most $50 and should take about an hour to change (yes you can do it yourself..it's not that hard) 2)Rust in the tank,.,.,,open the tank shine in a light and take a good look..some connies had problems with the gas tank rusting and flaking off..(easy to fix with a bottle of Por15 if it is caught early) Other then that just keep an eye on the normal wear and tear items...ie bearings, brakes, mileage etc... When I or one of my friends buys a new used bike, the first thing I do is a major service!! I never trust the Previous owner when they say "I just changed all the fluids" and I especially never trust dealers that I don't know,,, If this was me buying a COnnie..here is a list of what I would do to her when I got her home.. 1) Change every fluid that bike has including brake, clutch fork and final drive (if it is a fluid anywhere it gets changes...only exception is the battery acid..I don't change that:) ) 2) New plugs, air filter and check condition of plug wires,,if necassary I replace those too 3) Adjust valves, sync carbs and check carb float level 4) Pull final drive and grease the splines 5) Pull the wheels and grease the axles 6) Check the wheel bearings (they cost about $50 for new improved..and since ya have the wheels off anyway,,,) 7) grease all fittings 8) Check steering head for play and adjust if necassary 9) If I had moolah..ebc brake pads.. but that is just me,,,:) Good luck to you!
