Swapping Tires Going to swap tires, eh? Here's what you'll need. You'll need a 12mm allen, 8mm allen, 27mm socket and a helper. Pulling the front is simple. Just loosen the 8mm pinch bolts, twist the 12mm axle bolt and the axle will slide out. The rear is a pain. Remove the caliper (8mm allen). Remove the mufflers. (#4 philips). Get the 27mm socket and a cheaterbar. Twist the hell out of the bolt. Remember you didn't pull the cotter pin. Pull the cotter pin. Now the bolt comes out. Bang the axle thru to the other side. Gently rip the wheel and gears away from the gear box. Get grease all over you. Swap tires. Putting the front on is a cynch. Just work in reverse of the removal. Be sure to squeeze the brake lever while the caliper is off the wheel. That'll add to the fun as you try to figure out how the hell to pry the brake pads apart. Puttting the rear on is a bear. Drain the pumpkin. Remove the pumpkin. Degrease everything you can see. All the grease you remove will attach directly to you. Assuming you have a nice set of furniture in the house, it will magically jump off of you and attach to the furniture when you approach the house. Grease all the gear teeth - splines, pinion gears etc. Reinstall the pumpkin. Refill the gear oil. Reinstall the wheel. If you don't have a helper, here, you are going to knock the bike over. Don't worry, the centerstand has a tang on it to catch the bike. Sometimes. While the bike is on it's side, reinstall the wheel. Now, pick the bike back up and call you insurance agent. Again. Wait till he stops sobbing. Get new footpeg and mirror. And side plastic, cause you had the bags off. Got all that done? Good. Now, drink a couple of beers, and start connie up. Without the mufflers! Don't you feel like a Harley Boy? Stop the bike. Go in and sleep off the headache you just created. Reinstall the mufflers. Clean and reinstall the calipers. Reinstall the bags. You're done! Only took 2 weeks! With a proper lift, and a helper, it's really very simple. Figure 2 hours total.
