Cruiserworks Boots Review

One new product I tried out during my recent trip to the annual IBA dinner
party was a pair of Cruiserworks boots (the "Tour" model, without the funky
buckles). I bought these because they looked like something that would be
more appropriate for business meetings than my BMW boots. The Cruiserworks
boots are smooth black leather that is somehow treated to be "100%
waterproof". They have relatively soft rubber soles labeled "oil
resistant". The interior of the boots is lined with some material that is
supposed to assist in wicking moisture away from your foot. It also
provides a little insulation. The men's Tour boot isn't exactly dressy, but
it's the closest thing I've found to a dress boot that is supposed to be
waterproof. The women's model of the boot, which my wife bought, actually
looks quite dressy.

The Cruiserworks website (cruiserworks.com) suggests that the boots run a
little small. It suggests buying the larger size if you would normally wear
one of two different sizes. I normally wear a size 10 boot, so I ordered a
size 10. It was too tight in the toe area. I exchanged it for a half size
larger, which fit just the way I wanted (including room for orthotics and
thick socks).

As the advertisements for the boots claim, they are extremely comfortable to
walk in. (My wife says the women's boot is also very comfortable.) They
were fully broken-in after one long day. Although I didn't ride for
hour-after-hour in the rain, I rode through a couple of downpours and stayed
perfectly dry. On the way back to California, I walked through flooded
streets in Ozona, TX and stayed dry after having the boots submerged in at
least 3 inches of water for several minutes.

With polypro/wool socks, I found the boots to provide adequate warmth down
to at least 40F. How they will be in really hot weather, I don't know.
Sole wear is a bit of a concern. I can already see some wear on the heels
after a one-week trip. Time will tell whether the wear/comfort trade-off is
reasonable.

That's my brief report. I'm not trying to say these are the greatest boots
in the world, but I think they will fit a particular need that I have. I
was also impressed with the way the company does business. They send you an
e-mail notice as soon as the boots ship along with the projected arrival
date, which was accurate. They promptly exchanged the first pair of boots I
ordered for a different size without charging for shipping the second pair.
BTW, the cost for the men's boots was $209; the women's boots were $179,
plus shipping.
